Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

A school-to-work program that opens the door for Grade 11 or Grade 12 students to
explore and work in apprenticeable occupations through the Cooperative Education program.

Benefits

  • continue to earn high school credits toward your Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • become a registered apprentice while still in high school
  • earn hours toward your apprenticeship training to become a certified journeyperson in a skilled trade
  • complete college credits - part or all of Level 1 apprenticeship schooling in a specific trade

Students are encouraged to participate in specific trade related Cooperative Education work placement to determine suitability for apprenticeship registration during their Grade 11 year.  After a successful semester, students are encouraged to apply for a second Cooperative Education work placement in their grade 12 year and indicate on the application their interest in OYAP.

How to Apply

Submit a Cooperative Education Application during course selection in February and indicate your interest in OYAP.  Students are also encouraged to speak to a Cooperative Education Teacher about the opportunities available to them, as well as what other course selections would support their application.

 

Admission requirements

  • at least 16 years of age or older
  • in Grade 11 or 12, with 16 credits completed
  • demonstrate an interest and aptitude in a skilled trade
  • must have some related course background in their trade of interest
  • must have acceptable attendance records
  • a teacher reference
